The Claremont home

This home redesign for a young family of six, required innovative solutions to meet the growing families unique needs. The project included a complete demo and remodel of the first floor and a second-floor addition. My goal was to create harmony between private and communal spaces. Each family member was considered, with separate areas for the children and parents. For the parents, I designed the master-suite to be a dedicated retreat that allows them to relax and reconnect as individuals. Each child received a bespoke bedroom designed to grow with them over time, offering both functionality and flexibility. Abundant storage solutions were integrated throughout, ensuring the home remains organized and livable as the family expands and matures. Mid-century-inspired architectural details provide character and timeless appeal, tying the home together with warmth and personality.

floor plans

The first floor of the home is thoughtfully planned to accommodate the dynamic rhythms of a growing family. Upon entry, a dedicated laundry room offers immediate access for managing the daily needs of a household with four energetic children—perfect for streamlining chores and maintaining order. The kitchen is centrally located to facilitate convenient grab-and-go meals and snacks, while its proximity to the main living areas encourages everyday interaction. The distinct formal dining room promotes family bonding. The master suite is also located on the primary floor to support aging in place, allowing the parents to remain comfortably in the home for decades to come.

At the rear of the home, expansive floor-to-ceiling glass bifold doors blur the line between interior and exterior. These doors open directly onto a spacious patio and backyard, creating a seamless flow ideal for summer cookouts, birthday parties, holiday celebrations, and everyday family enjoyment.

The second floor is designed as a dedicated retreat for the children, fostering a sense of independence and sibling connection. Positioned away from the master suite, this layout provides the children and parents with their own semi-private realm within the home. This level includes a media room for relaxation and entertainment, a study-focused solarium ideal for reading and homework, and an outdoor patio encouraging time spent outdoors.

EXTERIOR ELEVATIONS

The home’s exterior boasts a striking architectural presence, featuring expansive windows, varying ceiling pitches, and a thoughtfully curated mix of materials. As you approach from the street, you are welcomed by a glass-enclosed porch that leads to a grand double-door entryway, offering a dramatic first impression.

A prominent display window, centrally located on the upper floor, showcases the home's internal staircase and a centralized courtyard. This design element floods the interior with natural light while preserving the family's sense of privacy.

The second floor extends the living space outdoors with a spacious patio, perfect for family gatherings and relaxed entertainment. The façade is clad in warm wooden paneling, complemented by a featured rock wall that wraps around the west side of the house, adding texture and grounding the home in its natural surroundings.
