la florencia, a hilton hotel

La Florencia is a conceptual hotel lobby design created for the Hilton Corporation. Situated along the coast near Barcelona, Spain, this space offers guests a transportive escape rooted in the spirit of Catalan modernism and inspired by the work of Antoni Gaudí.

Drawing from the abstraction and organic forms of Art Nouveau, La Florencia immerses visitors in a vibrant, tactile environment that harmonizes design history with contemporary hospitality. The lobby features thoughtfully arranged social seating, intricate custom tilework, and a fluid indoor-outdoor bar, all crafted to celebrate the region’s rich architectural and cultural heritage.

By blending Spanish warmth with Art Nouveau elegance, La Florencia reimagines the hotel lobby as both a welcoming space and a visual journey—where every detail contributes to a layered, lived-in experience.

The Separated Balcony introduces a thoughtful spatial division within the lobby, adding both visual intrigue and a sense of privacy. Designed as a more intimate retreat from the main gathering areas, the balcony creates a layered experience for guests seeking a quieter moment.

The back wall is adorned with handmade Catalan clay tiles, grounding the space in regional craftsmanship and adding warmth and texture. Expansive long windows not only flood the lobby with natural light but also offer sweeping views to those seated on the balcony, enhancing the connection between interior and exterior.

The concierge desk is crafted from heavily patterned marble, serving as both a functional hub and a sculptural focal point within the lobby. Positioned for maximum visibility, it allows receptionists to enjoy a sweeping view of the entire space, reinforcing its role at the heart of guest experience.

Directly across from the desk is a buffet-style seating area, designed for enjoying coffee and pastries the Spanish way—long, leisurely, and social. Overhead, pendant lighting and railings inspired by the iconic whiplash lines of Art Nouveau and Gaudí add a sense of movement and elegance, tying the space back to its artistic roots.
